The unrest in New Caledonia continues after the French president visited the Pacific island. Demonstrators continue to block streets despite police efforts to break rebel resistance, especially in the capital Noumea.

At least 6 people are dead so far and hundreds injured after fighting on the island escalated over a new voting law that is essentially just another mechanism to consolidate colonial rule.
The French authorities have mobilized around 3,000 members of the security forces who will be there until further notice.
The negotiations between the French authorities and the rebel leaders were attended by practically all French politicians in the area, showing how the different political parties of the French bourgeoisie quickly find a common language when it is necessary to defend their own class interests.
